Hi there! Welcome to the Ma Maison blog. Stay a while and say hello!

Unique Reception Ideas for your Texas Wedding!

Tips and Advice

Weddings are one of the only times in your life when you’ll have your closest friends and family together in one location. We think that’s pretty special, and we love seeing all of the ways our couples celebrate with their guests. We get to witness several tried and true traditions woven throughout many weddings here at Ma Maison. Things such as the bouquet toss, first dances, and a grand exit, just to name a few. But perhaps you want to add some unique reception ideas that are more hands-on! While the dance floor is usually a place guests flock to for entertainment, what if you provided some other unique reception ideas for your big day?

We’ve come up with a few unique reception ideas that could take your wedding to the next level. Most of these concepts have been executed by real Ma Maison couples and there are some we haven’t seen here (yet!) If you decide to implement these unique reception ideas, we bet your guests will leave your event feeling entertained. Additionally, they’ll likely remember these special touches for years to come.

Lawn Games

Whether during your cocktail hour only or for the duration of your reception, having lawn games available in any outdoor space provides lots of laughs and entertainment. This activity is suitable for all ages, which is helpful if there are kids at your event. Games that work well are Jenga, corn hole, bocce ball, croquet, checkers, tic tac toe, and ladder ball. If you’re not wanting to spend a fortune purchasing games, it’s likely your friends have some of these items (or maybe your venue). We’re sure if you asked they wouldn’t mind lending them to you for your wedding. Perhaps you can consider it your something borrowed. 😉

Live Painter

Have you heard of a live painter? There are some amazingly talented artists you can commission to paint at your wedding.  Not only do they provide you with a keepsake you’ll cherish forever, but the fact that they paint during your wedding provides entertainment for your guests as well. Most live painters use either acrylic or watercolor paints, depending on your preferred style. You can have them paint a moment from your ceremony or your reception, either way, they are usually on-site during your event for several hours. Some artists in our area to consider would be CA-Milleworks and Alyssa Love

Late Night Snack

No celebration is complete without endless food! From the cocktail hour to the end of the night, keep your guests full and happy with the food that keeps on coming. A few hours into dancing, surprise your guests with a tasty snack! You can arrange this with your caterer or you can order food from a local establishment (like this couple did with Whataburger, below). This is always a hit after guests have spent some time on the dance floor and at the bar.

Feature Animals

We love having animals on our property! It’s even better when those animals double as a mobile bar cart. A fun way to do this is to rent beer burros. What are beer burros? They are miniature donkeys that have saddlebags on their backs with beverages, in most cases beer. On our property, we have plenty of space for this and guests absolutely love it! Cocktail hour is the best opportunity for this, as guests are usually outdoors enjoying all of the beautiful scenery of our venue. How adorable are these beer burro donkeys? You can inquire about them here!

S’mores Station

As we mentioned earlier, you can never have enough food at a wedding. We touched on savory foods previously, but a wedding wouldn’t be complete without lots of desserts. An interactive s’mores station where guests can build their own s’more is the sweetest end to the night. You can have the basics, but you can also add some fun bonuses like Reese’s Cups or KitKat bars. With some help from your caterer, they’ll be sure this station is ready to go at the proper time for your guests. Matt and Blair’s guests certainly enjoyed this sweet surprise!
