In 2008, Jorge and Gloria were matched at the University of Texas medical school in Houston while doing their residency. They became friends shortly after they started their residency and were there for each other during the difficulties during their residency. By their second year, Gloria and Jorge were more than friends and have been inseparable ever since!

Here is what Gloria had to say about their engagement story, “In regards to our engagement Jorge proposed very close to our 5th anniversary. Our fifth anniversary was on January 16, 2015, and he proposed on January 28th, 2016. He did it like that because he wanted to surprise me and boy he did! I knew he was about to propose (he gave me a few hints to make sure I was ready lol) but I wasn’t sure when he would as I thought he would either propose on our actual anniversary or on an upcoming trip we had to Colombia the week after he actually proposed. It was my first time going to Colombia, and we were going to spend a few days in his hometown of Barranquilla and in Cartagena which is one of the most romantic cities in the world and I thought he would propose there (he knew I was thinking that and decided to not do that to surprise me!).

The day he proposed was a regular weekday, and I was working until late, and he told me he was going to go out of town for a medical meeting in New Orleans. A mutual friend of ours was celebrating his birthday at a bar, and I went there after work exhausted (almost cancel, but my friend called frantically to make sure I showed up!) when I got there I was received by my friends who were recording me, each gave me a flower and gave me a letter. The letter indicated that I would have to follow several clues to get to my final destination and asked me to take the video camera with me and record my adventure! I drove all over Houston looking for clues on a scavenger hunt he organized for me, and I loved that he used references on my clues to Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Lord of the Rings and jokes that only we knew and understood. The final clue took me to the Gerald D Hines Waterwall in the Galleria area where I found him and our dog who was wearing the cutest sweater (it was red and had a heart). He then kneeled and proposed and was super sweet because I’ve never seen him that nervous (at work he is always collected and makes life or death decisions all the time without a glitch, so it was super funny to see him that nervous). After that, we went and had dinner, and the week later we celebrated in Colombia and got to enjoy Cartagena as a newly engaged couple! it was super romantic!”

Gloria and Jorge were engaged for six months before they began their wedding plans as they wanted to enjoy their engagement status. Once they began the long road, it took them three months to find the perfect venue. The two looked all over, Mexico, Colombia, Napa, Houston, and Austin but found their wedding venue with us!

Gloria is from Tijuana, Mexico while Jorge is from Barranquilla, Colombia and the couple met and live in Houston Texas. The multiple locations created a unique travel theme within the wedding reception!

100 closest family members and friends gathered at the Grove ceremony site on Saturday, March 25th, 2017 to witness Gloria and Jorge exchange vows. As the processional began, guests were able to witness Maia, Gloria’s little furry friend walk down the aisle! The ceremony finished with “I Do’s” and the cocktail hour began. Once the hour was up, everyone made their way to the reception in the Great Hall. They found their seats by looking for photos of Gloria and Jorge in various cities around the world! A custom monogram was made with a map of the key cities in the couple’s lives that was also used for the gobo.

One of the most important elements of the wedding to Gloria and Jorge was the music, “I want our guests and us to dance the night away and have lots of fun! So yeah the music is very important to us. We are very happy with our DJ, and we are working with him to make sure we have the perfect marriage between our Latino heritage/music and the mainstream music we also love.”

The party ran till 2 am with dancing and laughing till the end! A grand exit with a vintage car and some sparkler fountains was how the new Mr. and Mrs. decided to exit. The following Monday, Gloria, and Jorge left for their honeymoon to Dubai for a few nights and then move on to the Maldives followed by some time in Sri Lanka.
